Plot: Hopefuls try out before a demanding director for a part in a new musical.
Good fun, lovable characters, fantastic dance. Cop out of a story, but hey it's Broadway. Worth the watch.
P. S. The DVD box looks like shit.
Para quem gosta de musicais, é um filme que não se deve perder.
Adorei a história de cada personagem,
Broadway dream, is a great musical.
This was pretty interesting. The whole movie was one long audition. The director cut it down from hundreds to 16, then we got to know those 16 pretty well, until he cut it to 8. But I didnt really get the end. Was it an imagined tribute to all who tried out? I didnt think it was possible for Paul to actually come back, and there is no need for a two hundred person chorus line. But, if you like this kind of dancing or musicals, you would probably enjoy this.
Theater-to-film translations are truly that - mere approximations of the original work. In this case, this was one of those Broadway shows that just didn't cross over very well and came out rather humdrum and boring.
Compound it with some weird additional songs, relatively unmemorable actors and slight reinterpretations of the original story and you get this just OK version of the original stage show.
Unlike Sweeney Todd, Hair, and West Side Story, A Chorus Line doesn't translate that well from stage to screen. In fact, it bored me. I will give credit where credit is due, though. There were a few catchy songs and a good premise. The other half of the catchy songs, however, were unmemorable and far too long. The choreography was also well done, but not enough to drag the parts (that weren't as well carried out) out of the "pit o' bad filmwork." Essentially, It is the stage in which this musical should stay.
