An autobiographical film from first timer Dito Montiel which is dramatic and character driven. The film offers a penetrating raw and gritty look into living life in a threatening environment, escaping that environment and what it's like to come home again. Well scripted and brilliantly acted....
Shiftless tough teens learn life's bitter lessons on the mean streets of New York. With Chazz Palminteri, Robert Downey Jr. and a cast of exciting fresh faces, it's well acted, etc., but adds little to the genre.
Stunning. Everyone in this is superb, even Tatum and especially Downey Jr. La Beouf and Martin Compston!
Wow, a great hard-hitter on every front. The cast definitely drives the movie here, and they're all fantastic top-to-bottom. From Downey Jr.'s surpressed rage to LaBeouf's vulnerability, every cast member brings everything to the table, making each character memorable and multidimensional. Kudos to the writers who really bring street grit and an edgy poetic feel to the film. The direction is often risky and fresh and usually works well, making the atmosphere both familiar and vaguely threatening. The family's struggle to find a way to reconcile differences is what really got me - it's so naturally handled, giving it a raw feeling that encompasses every part of the film. This is one of the few really true-to-life films out there about growing up, running away, and coming home. Highly recommended.
A great straight to DVD film. The film obviously won't win an best cinematography awards due to it's grainy documentrie look to it. The film is about the life of director Dito Montiel and is surprisingly quite touching in a sense. Staring Shia Labeouf and Robert Downey in his worst performance, seriously eye wanted to somehow get in the TV and punch his drunk ass!
Acting alone cannot save a movie from bad editing. I really wanted to like this movie, and on some levels I did. The acting was well done, the story was inviting, and the characters were likable. But overall the editing made this movie almost unwatchable. The flow between past and present was usually blurred, leaving the viewer confused and annoyed. Overall this movie was OK. Nothing too spectacular or gritty.. Leaving you feeling a bit detached from the story and not really caring about the outcome of the movie.
Been following this movie for months, and tis coming out on March 2nd for us, Can't Wait! :D
