Demeaning and irritating. Badly overhyped.
Obviously written by Americans (sorry to anyone I might offend) who think all Africans come from the bushveld. And I don't even delete stars for that. But maybe Tina Fey is right; because I never had to deal with this crap when I was in high school.
Amanda Seyfried and Rachel McAdams can do so much better. Not so sure about Lohan though.
I know my masculinity is endangered whenever I say something like this, but the heck with it: this movie's friggin' hilarious. The "Heathers" of the '00s, this, sadly, IS the high school of today (Take pity on me). Fans of "Heathers" will most likely not like the comedy in this movie, but it's only because it pokes fun at the Rap-, R&B-, Reggaeton-listening cliques (Actually, it makes fun of all the cliques) by mocking/appealing to them at the same time. I wouldn't say that the storyline is as good as it should've been since it gets sort of cliche towards the end; though, it was based on a book, which explains some of the humor and the coherency throughout most of the movie. Watch it once just to see what I'm talking about.
I love how they paint high school up towards the viewers. I find high school nothing like it. It a good movie for just a night withthe girls.
"Welcome to Girl World."
Tina Fey from Saturday Night Live wrote and appears in this comedy about the alternately funny and terrifying pecking order among teenage girls. Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) is a 15-year-old girl who has spent most of her life in Africa, where she was home-schooled by her zoologist parents. When her family relocates to the United States, Cady finds herself attending a high school in suburban Illinois, where she gets a crash course in the various sub-strata of the student body: the jocks, the cheerleaders, the stoners, the "cool" kids, and so on. Much to her surprise, Cady finds herself embraced by a clique of rich and popular girls known to outsiders as "the Plastics," led by Regina George (Rachel McAdams), Gretchen Weiners (Lacey Chabert), and Karen Smith (Amanda Seyfried). While Cady is grateful for her new friends, it doesn't take long for her to realize how manipulative they can be, and she soon discovers she's violated an unwritten law when she goes out on a date with Aaron (Jonathan Bennett), who is charming, good looking...and Regina's former boyfriend. It isn't long before Regina and her pals are on the warpath, and Cady must face a level of vengeful behavior for which years in the jungle never prepared her. Joining Tina Fey in the supporting cast are fellow SNL players Amy Poehler, Ana Gasteyer, and Tim Meadows. The screenplay for Mean Girls was based in part on Queen Bees and Wannabes: Helping Your Daughter Survive Cliques, Gossip, Boyfriends and Other Realities of Adolescence, a book by professional youth counselor Rosalind Wiseman.
Review
Tina Fey deserves tremendous credit for manufacturing a story which adopts the conventional teen drama plot, and still adds enough irony to entertain, without ever overtly winking at the audience. The director also slips in lovely grace notes, such as a subtle homage to Carrie.
This achievement is even more remarkable given the necessity of working around Lindsay Lohan's acting inability, and lack of screen radiance. The supporting cast however, including Fey, are almost all excellent and elevate the comedy around Lohan's woodenness and frequent occasions when Lohan can not even muster a credible expression for a close up.
Add in a bit of laugh out loud shtick, and this is probably the most appealing teen movie since " 10 Things I Hate About You" ( which excelled on the wings of its star, Julia Stiles, not in spite of the star, so "Mean Girls" is exceptional).
Better than I expected.
I love to look at this cover and reminisce about the times I've watched it. I love this movie so much.
This movie is freggin halrious... i watched it with my friend and he was addicted to it for the longest time.. I think he still loves it.. :P
So/So funny...Rachel McAdams is always a treat to watch, too many 2nd rate SNL actors thrown in... Now, to watch this movie... don't rent it & don't risk stealing it...lol, borrow it from a friend or wait til a T.V. release. lol ;) Enjoy.
