This was different than what I thought it would be. I am really loving Japanese horror films; they are very different from American horror films. There is a different perspective.
Migumi suffered a terrible fate, and I would have thought that she would have wrought a more terrible revenge. She let these men off too easily.
Spirit photography is old and somewhat unknown; but it is becoming an attractive thing. I actually have a ghost picture that was taken in my greandmother's house many years ago when I was a child.
It's sad to see so many people faking these photos with photoshop. Spirits make themselves known for a reason. And we should listen.

There Wasn't Any Really Good Scares!!! This Is What I Don't Like About Japanese Movies Made Into American Movies!!! Directors Try So Hard To Make It Alike That They Forget The Most Important Thing That Is A Good Scare!!!

This was a pretty good movie. It started off really slow. But when it got into it got into it. Goes to show what goes around comes around.

Wasn't Scarey like the Grudge... Hard time focusing on anything but Racheal Taylor, wow she's gorgeous! Decent movie, not too exciting. Don't go out of your way... ;-) Enjoy.

    Yawwwwwwwwwwwwwwnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn...

Ooops, did I fall asleep? Nope - just WANTED TO.

This could have been a decent enough movie, but for some reason the characters all just seemed to BUG ME! The wife especially! Not sure why, or what the problem was exactly - but I didn't get into this one a whole lot, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Okay, okay, if you are bored to death and this is all there is to watch... Then yeah, go ahead and pop it in the DVD player. But don't expect to be riveted to the screen.

Heck - the best part of the movie was realizing what was causing the guys neck pain all that time... LOL. *shakes head*

Decent enough, I think at this point the creepy dead japanese woman/or dead girl with greasy black hair coming back for revenge themed horror flicks should be laid to rest. This film was decent enough, but, it can easily be compared to the Grudges 1 & 2, I know what you did last summer, Stir of Echoes, and many other films.

Overall familiar but had this come out ahead of the rest of the slew of Japanese remakes I probably would have enjoyed it more.
And to think, there's still more of them on the way--I shudder at the thought.

Much better than I anticipated. I was not happy at all with the ending, but you have to take the good with the bad. Although I do feel that he got a worse punishment than his friends did so that was good.

If there's one thing we've learned from Japanese movies it's don't mess with Japanese women. Let's see, there's Audition, Ringu and Ju-on..ugh, can they not come up with a slightly different concept? It was too predictable to be creepy or scary.

Somewhat faithful remake keeps everything that was wrong with the original Thai film and removes everything that was good.

Sometimes I wonder if people like me are the reason movies like this get made.

I don't rent them because I think they are going to be good, I rent them because I hope they are going to be bad, bad in a comical way.

Given such, this movie was what I expected. Bad but funny. There did not seem to be much point to the plot line at all and the end reveal almost made me shoot the coke I was drinking out of my nose.

Not quite going to kill off tourism to Japan as Wolf Creek to Oz, but the Japanese mystical and spiritual phenomenon of this one has nothing to do with Konika, Nintendo or Hello Kitty. And the end...dont move!!

Six years after the breakout hit remake "The Ring" by Gore Verbinski, it is pretty safe to say that the Asian horror sub-genre has been milked for all its worth, with each succession of remakes or "original" storylines coming in more diluted than the previous. With an extremely brisk running time of 85 minutes (including the closing credits), film follows newlyweds as they go for a honeymoon in Japan. Elation encounters a speed bump as they hit what seems to be a young woman on a rural street. From that point, film basically uses this sub-genre's checklist that is not already efficient in the first place: procedural screenplay, computer effects dependent thrills and unbelievably one dimentional character development. Film knows it's audience, and it delivers it to them, apathetic to how effective they might be. Film feels like a remake of a remake of a remake. Nothing to see here.

Doesn't really want to make you shutter your eyes, but still a decent horror movie about a spirit haunting a young couple, becomes a little obvious what has happened about 20 minutes out from the end, but still quite clever.

The thing is though. The original horror movies like Shutter, Grudge, The Ring, The Eye etc. There all getting boring aswell. It's always the same story line. Asain woman haunts some people. Then we get a remake that's the same and boring aswell.

my review (and house of flesh promotion) of this film was actually for the original 2004 asian film "Shutter (they are among us)", and at the time I was under the impression that it was a theatrical new release in 2008 overseas, and not even aware that it had been "western-ized" or that 2 versions even existed

    other than that

I'm sure this "remake" IS as terrible as people say,
and like the posters below me state; after seeing the original film you really wouldn't give a shit about any attempt by hollywood to pitifully re-create something that was originally a brilliant foreign horror film to begin with

I'll watch this only under the most extreme circumstances of sheer boredom after seeing the theatrical trailer, and its predecessor
    (which I highly recommend)

i've seen the original. one of the scariest movies. watch the original instead! btw, they got it wrong. it was a THAI horror flick, why make it in Japan? the Thailand setting in the original was amazing.

This movie was not that scary. Sure there were a few parts that you jump a little, but not anything that freaks you out like a good horror film should. It was almost exactly like the Grudge in every aspect, including weird Japanese girls following you around and stuff. A friend and I laughed through the entire movie!! The only good part was the electrocution, otherwise it was just plain tacky. I'm sorry, but thumbs down.
