Wall-E is about the last of the trash compactor robots that were left on Earth 800 years ago to clean up the mess that man created for himself. Where are we at? We're in a giant Wal Mart turning into Elvis: The Dying Days as we wait for the day that we can return home. When a probe drops EVE, a robot used for searching for plant life on the surface of the Earth, Wall-E falls in love with her and travels across the galaxy out of this new found feeling inside of his gear box.
Once again Pixar has made an animated film that isn't a cut above the rest, it's on the top of Everest while everyone else is sitting in an outhouse in Nebraska. I just can not understand why every year we get so many animated films and they look like someone painted on the stalls of a gas station bathroom in their own feces compared to Pixar's work.
Even though the story is a little too preachy the entire idea of a littered Earth is a MacGuffin. This is actually a love story between Wall-E and Eve. Don't ask me how they did it but Pixar will make you believe that robots can fall in love. And it works.
It's getting to the point that I'm beginning to wonder if Pixar can do no wrong.
OK so I watched this on Christmas 08 for the first time.
Not only was it not what I expected based on friends/family recommendations it was much much different. And not in a good way.
There is no plot whatsoever for the first 15 minutes, and then it takes a while to fully understand the plot once it begins to be unveiled.
I just didn't like this one. My cousins three kids however (all four and under) simply loved the film, that will weigh in on my rating as the movie hit home with the target audience.
#7: WALL-E The story of a cute little garbage robot left alone on a pollution-choked planet earth somehow managed to combine glorious slapstick comedy with a surprisingly bleak environmental message. In Pixar?s future, the human race are a bunch of useless fatties in thrall to their own technology. Not the studio?s greatest film, perhaps (Toy Story 2 and Ratatouille take some beating) but a brilliantly ambitious cartoon nonetheless.
Best bit: Wall-E?s zero gravity ballet with a fire extinguisher.
Another wonderful Pixar film, well done in all regards.
Pixar jumps 700 years into the future to introduce us to Wall-E, a robot living on an abandoned Earth who spends his day compacting trash and collecting little things for himself and his cockroach friend.
Earth has become a dump and is no longer inhabited by humans, but Walll-E has been left behind to clean up. During this time it has developed a personality involving his curiosity about all things, which includes his love for the musical Hello Dolly.
One day a space ship arrives, with a little robot, whose name we learn is Eve, being sent out to explore Earth for life. Wall-E befriends Eve, who also has a personality, but before long, Eve is picked up by the space ship, and Wall-E tags along.
Upon reaching an even larger space ship, which is voiced by Sigourney Weaver (who sees the irony?) Wall-E and we the audience learn what has happened to humans as well as the state of technology. However, all Wall-E really wants is to be with a companion.
It is a testament to how good Pixar is at telling stories that one can be effortlessly involved with liking Wall-E, a little robot whose expressions are so wonderful. Its movements are so well defined and effective, its amazing. The same goes for some of the other robot characters as well.
The story is ingenious in combining both romance and sci-fi into a great story for all ages. There are of course plenty of subtle sci-fi movie jokes as well to catch throughout. Its also nice to see how Wall-E has influence on almost everything he meets throughout the film. Wall-E brings about change, curiosity, and discovery and its a wonderful thing to see.
Directed by Finding Nemo helmer Andrew Stanton and co-written by long time Simpsons worker Jim Reardon, the movie does a wonderful job at having witty humor, emotion, and a grand adventure feel throughout. The soundtrack by Thomas Newman adds to its wonderment.
Mary: I didn't know we had a pool!
The animation is once again stunning. The whole movie looks great, raising the bar once again, without being eerily realistic. The look of a future gritty and polluted earth balanced against the streamlined, clean looking space ship portion works very well and comes off as something very special.
The sound design is very important as well. There is little spoken dialog during the first section of the film, so it relies on Wall-E's little noises and it all comes together so well.
This whole movie comes together so well. It gave me the great feelings I got from the other wonderful Pixar films, making this easily one of the best films of 2008.
BnL CEO: [video] Because you've been in space the bones in your body have decreased in size and your body frame has increased, but I'm sure a few laps on the ship's jogging track can put you back in shape in no time. Captain: We have a jogging track?
I would have loved to give more stars for this piece of art, but this time I just cannot do that. The start of movie were pretty lame for my taste, I waited pretty long time for the movie actually start but by time it got better and better and more enjoyable. The image of possible future human is always interesting. And actually I do have one note to remind here, I did watch with my fiancee the "old" trilogy of Star Wars and suprisingly I noticed there a bot eyes, just because it was Wall-E. So our little future bot had he's first performance already at late 70's or early 80's.
I think this movie is underappreciated. The fact that Pixar can create a movie about robots without using any dialogue for them while still conveying all of their emotions is pretty impressive.
This is one of the more charming films i've seen in a long time. The minimal use of dialogue, and the cinematic techniques (new to such computer animated movies) make this movie beautiful to watch and a story that anyone can understand and enjoy.
Very good movie, but not excellent. Props to the writer for making it pratically speechless for the first half of the movie, but still over-hyped.
I mean, it's well made and the characters are good, but the story is almost inexistent. And heavily derivative.
That said, it's entertaining and well made, thus 4 stars. But don't try to explain to me how this is such a break-through movie, since silent movies were the very first ones to exist and Charlie Chaplin's acting keeps being better than a little animated anthropomorphic robot.
Wow this was great! Who knew robotic love was so powerful? If theres one movie you gotta see for the year of 2008 its gotta be this one. Pixar has outdone themselves once again. Probably the best movie they have made now.
Great family movie. The husband and preschooler LOVED it but I thought it was slow at times. It does keep the child entertained while I cook and this is important :)
Right from the beginning, even if you knew nothing about the film, it is clear this is not your traditional Disney/Pixar film. The comedy may be less subtle, as is the usual Disney message, but the characters, probably by nature of being robots are more so. The film is a joy from start to finish, but bittersweet with it. The characters are well drawn and they seem to have taken their animation technology to a whole new level. It may be taken as a damning statement about human nature, the way we're treating the planet and where we're heading, but through Wall-E's eyes we become something more than that. It is in fact a hopeful film and by the end you we literally take our future in our own hands. It makes you wish we could do so now...
It's ashame that wall e is a rip off of johnny 5 from short circuit. Though this movie was ok. The ending was the only good thing about this film. I still can't believe that this movie won BEST PICTURE in chicago, boston and los angeles. I don't get why this animated movie can be taken seriously for awards.
Not sure why it took so long for me to get round to watching this one...
A very sweet and loveable robot that ends up in space.
Never thought that a film with very little dialogue could be this good, but it has funny, awww and feel good moments.
