"The Dark Knight" Sets Another Record

"The Dark Knight" Sets Another Record "The Dark Knight" grossed the most ever for midnight shows. The film racked up an estimated $18.5 million.

The follow-up to 2005's "Batman Begins" outstripped the previous midnight record set by "Star Wars, Episode III: The Revenge of the Sith" which grossed $16.9 million from 3,663 venues. "Sith" went on to make $50 million in its first day, which was a Thursday. The highest single day opening record is currently held by "Spider-man 3" which made $59.8 million.

"Dark Knight" unspooled in a record number of sites - 4,366 - outstripping the wide bow of "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" which touted a theater count of 4,362.

Warner Bros reported that the $18.5 million did not include 3:00 AM and 6:00 AM.

    I am very excited to have been a part of this open weekend experience with all of you guys and other millions of Dark Knight fans.It was better than everything I could have hoped for.I am so happy and I think we all feel much better now seeing this blowout weekend because it means 1 thing,That this beautiful little girl will always be taken care of,and I know how much that means to MANY of us.=)

    i loved THE DARK KNIGHT it was totally awsome. great performances by the cast. its defenitley a must see for this summer you will be blown away!!! i recommend it to everyone and i think i'll go watch it again :)

    well it sets another record for best single-day opening ever too with 66millions, gonna beat titanic?probably but still long way to go lol.

    i went to go see this last night half an hour before the 7 pm showing & it was already sold out for 3 consecutive showings so we bought tickets for the 4th showing which was like at 9:20 & walk around the mall to kill time. So I wouldn't be surprised if this film does beat more box-office records.

    of course it won't beat Titanic, that's basically impossible. remember when that movie came out, not only did teenage girls see it a thousand times, ticket prices were also probably half the amount they are now, so more people went more often. no way it'll get even close to Titanic.
    still, though, this midnight number is huge. this flick will be a monster...wether it'll beat Spidey's weekend take, i'm still not sure.
