'Batman' scribe unsure over third movie

The Dark Knight co-writer David Goyer has admitted that the prospect of making another Batman movie is "scary".

Goyer confirmed that he would only get involved in a new Batman project if he felt confident that 2005's Batman Begins and its sequel could be topped.

"I think that’s the scariest thing - to think, could we come up with a third movie that was as good as the first two? Can we top ourselves?" Goyer asked in an interview with MTV News. "Doing it a third time would be a big proposition."

While he revealed that a theme and villain have already been discussed for a third movie, Goyer warned that there is no guarantee the plans will go any further.

He said: "I do think, though, that if there's not a third film - these two movies stand on their own. I think it could go either way."

Goyer may have his doubts about a third movie, but he doesn't make decisions so who cares? I guarantee the studio has already given the greenlight on the third Batman movie, so it's going to get made and quickly too. I think it would be awfully stupid for anyone involved in the 2nd film to jump off this money train now.

Haha, I know what he means. I'm writing a screenplay too but I don't intend for sequels except in my books. But here's what I have to say, stories are powerful, and then the sequel can top it, and then top it again. It doesn't seem so likely to top it but if you ignore topping it realize more on how DIFFERENT is this movie from the ones before. There is many reasons to write another Batman film and making it its own movie seems more important to me.

I think Mr. Goyer sounds like a pussy. This is what art and life in general are all about, striving to always improve and do things better. I agree that these first 2 movies are great and always will be but that's no reason to let fear of failure stop you and if he can't handle the challenge of a third film then maybe he needs to hand the reigns over to someone who can (with all due respect to him and the work he's done).

It would be the craziest move ever to miss out on that! Even if the film isn't as good as the last ones, the anticipation and publicity would be huge! WRITE ON!
